live in Denmark and speak Danish I think quite well but have an accent why should this matter so much?
whenever I see someone who I haven't seen for say a few months they always say I am really good at the language but I think wasn't I good before too. I can't seem to get a job either as I do office work but when I go for job interviews people are to afraid of my accent to employ me. Is there any way around this. I am Irish and am happy to hold on to my accent

It is a common problem in the United States too. Natives tend to either slow, raise their voices, as if the accent would make a person dumb or hard of hearing (LOL). I have interviewed many people in my profession, and because I have visited many countries, I usually expect (and recommend) the person being interviewed to show me what they are capable of doing. Their tasks are usually of much higher standards then many natives, so do not let your accent full anyone!

Your not Danish, that's the simple answer. many people from other countries, including the fellow member of the EU, are being given every reason under the sun, why they did not get the job. Of course they would never admit that its because you are not Danish. have tried for a number of years, filling in endless application forms sending email, they only way I found was to start my own company. The common though is that people who are not Danish don't work as hard, that's no joke) most people from other countries know all about working hard. I peak a little Danish i suppose I should speak more but people tell me the same thing even though I have not even tried to learn any more, all my business is conducted in English. I think its the danish syndrome of being nice to your face, but behind you back its a different story. A politician (cannot remember his name on copenhagen post site) that they want non danes to become danes, leaving their own nationality behind, I am sure that the average dane certainly would not do this if it was from another country You are Irish I am English no one is going to tell me that I have to become a Dane!!! It basically boils down to you not being danish, even if you could remove your accident (why should you) they would find something else to complain about. Just remember this is Denmark where nothing is normal. do not forget the Citizen Exam, if people pass it then the Danes think its to easy, (even though many of them cannot even answer the question, maybe the failing Danes should be shipped out of denmark) Dont Give up just keep on going. Rugratzz, said it all!!!! Once you get under the surface, Denmark does not want people from other countries, At my company we are told that its better to employ Danes to non Danes. You need to start to questioning the reason why they did not employ you, If you were qualified for the job and did not get it ask why, hopefully they will make a mistake and point you to the reason, then take them to the cleaners. You have as much right to work in Denmark as any Dane, if you are able to do the job.
